In 2003 the Australian Film and screen Academy
honoured Andy with an award for the best music for an Australian
advert. The advert was for the Visa commercial “Dining out”
and featured Andy’s composition, arranging and manic clarinet
virtuosity. Andy has been active as an arranger and studio musician
since 1984 and has written, arranged and or featured on some of
Australia’s best loved commercials. “Louie the fly”,
(clarinet & sax), Mc Leans food products (clarinet & saxes),
Harvey World Travel “Welcome to my world” (clarinet,
saxes, arranger) as well as on episodes of the children’s
cartoon “Blinky Bill” (clarinet). Andy also co-wrote
the theme for the popular Australian sports show, The Footy Show
2001 and featured on sax for the soundtrack.
Andy Firth has composed over 300 works some of
which include; solo woodwind, chamber music, duets, trios, quartets,
concerti, jazz, Latin, rock, Pop, Funk, county and numerous educational
pieces aimed at developing the ability to play in various popular
music styles in the young player.
'Andy's flute pieces are as much fun to play
as they are to listen to. For the classical flautist who has admired
and wished to be able to play jazz, his pieces are ideal. They
are written in such a way that even the "squarest "
classical musician can play in a true jazz style. Present students
have grown up hearing jazz and will enjoy playing such familiar
and upbeat music. They're a bit tricky -but you'll enjoy the challenge
and the "feel-good" feeling Andy's music promotes.'
