“Andy Firth-SAX ON THE MIND” was recorded, edited, mixed & produced in late March to early June 2020. The Covid 19 Virus crisis gripped Australia in mid January and enforced a lock down of all citizens including the gathering of musicians for any purposes. With no other realistic alternatives this meant Andy had to perform and record this album as a one musician project. Fortunately, the excellent keyboard, guitar, bass and drums samples available today combined with Andy’s own keyboard and recording playing abilities, meant that although extra work and planning was needed, that this album could still be realised even in these uncertain times. Andy features on tenor sax throughout this album which was largely inspired by the wonderful Jimmy Smith/Stanley Turrentine recordings of the 1960s. Unlike the Smith/Turrentine recordings though, Andy has broken new ground by using this same instrumental combination to record various other styles, including rock n roll, funk and even a track in authentic 1950’s style (“Once Again”). “SAX ON THE MIND” is packed with catchy grooves, good time rock and swing “foot tappers” and even a few Latin, sultry jazz ballads, Gospel and blues tracks! This album was designed to have broad appeal and to ensure that everyone can find something they’ll love on it!”
