3 Pieces for Solo Jazz Saxophone (unaccompanied):Advanced Level
Three pieces dedicated to a jazz saxophone legend: Phil Woods, Paul Desmond & Charlie Parker. This piece requires some serious technique and knowledge of jazz styles. Definitely an advanced level work, but if you enjoy a challenge and a good solid jazz inspired workout, you’ll love this one!
1st Movement: “Introduction and Be Bop”. Dedicated to the great jazz alto saxophone legend, Phil Woods, this movement begins as a calm and jazz tinged rhapsodic theme that gradually builds and unfolds. This then leads directly into a medium Be Bop drenched improvisation in the style of Phil Woods before returning once more to the calm and relaxing rhapsody.
2nd Movement: “Time for Paul”. This movement was inspired by Paul Desmond’s hit tune, “Take Five” and contains many of Desmond’s stylistic and melodic approaches to improvising. I f you love “Take Five”, then you’ll love this movement!
3rd Movement: “Bird Talk” Dedicated to the great Charlie Parker. A Parker styled piece replete with Parker inspired & styled quotes and notated improvisation. A challenging sax Be Bop workout but a very enjoyable one!
