God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
About God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
This classic old Christmas Carol that has been one of the most beloved of the Yule time season gets an exciting, funky workout in this arrangement.
First played in a traditional choral-style manner by the saxes, the theme is then passed along to the trumpets & trombones before returning it to the saxes once more.
A funky drum break heralds the funky-inspired treatment of the theme played by unison saxes and then brass.
A section featuring suggested solos for alto sax, trombone, guitar, and piano follows before a sudden and refreshing key change brings the main theme back in choral style.
The arrangement finishes with a big and brassy Baroque-styled minor cadence in epic proportion!
This arrangement is sure to be a hit with your players and audiences alike.
Range and Technical aspects:
Level: Intermediate.
The chart involves a few blues scale semi-quaver lines in the saxes but these should for the most part “fall under the fingers” for a good standard of intermediate level player.
Technical and Ranges: Trumpet 1: limited to “C” above leger line. Trombone 1: “A” above leger line. 4th Trom: Bass Trombone as the part frequently goes below the tenor trombone’s range. Namely: low D, C, B, A, and G
Moderate technical and rhythmic difficulty. Semi-quaver lines occasionally. Soloists: Written/Improv: Alto Sax 1 and Trombone 2.
