Turka A La Rondo-Clarinet
Turka A La Rondo was composed in 2003 for one of my saxophone students at the time, Hugh Milligan. Written in a stylised 18th-century manner, the work is aimed at an advanced intermediate performer and combines Classical elegance with playful virtuosity.
The piece is built around three principal themes (or motives), which are developed and interwoven throughout. Listeners may also notice brief, light-hearted references to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s famous Rondo alla Turca from the Piano Sonata in A major, K.331. These quotations are intended as affectionate nods rather than direct borrowings, woven into the texture in a way that complements the original material.
The title Turka A La Rondo deliberately reverses and playfully alters the spelling of Mozart’s title, reflecting the work’s spirited character and its conversational relationship with the Classical tradition.
This product comes with soloist part, piano accompaniment, mp3 performance and piano backing track.
